At the time of this update, the South Pacific leg and the first U.S. leg of the 2003 are over, and these new shows have brought with them many new Pearl Jam posters. The new posters are very interesting not only for the totally different art styles that many have, but also because for this tour every different stop has had its own unique poster, save for the Texas poster. Most of these new posters
have sold out at their show very quickly, and the limited edition series that Ames Brothers sells afterward usually sell out in thirty minutes or less. Though the print runs are not available, there is no doubt that they are far less than the print runs for the 2000 posters. Along with this scarcity there seems to be a greater number of poster collectors, which basically makes the posters go up in price. The South Pacific posters on a whole are doing
better than the United States posters, probably because they are harder to get for collectors, especially for the Brisbane and Japan posters. The United States posters are doing very well so far, most in the $50-60 range. The one main exception is the Texas poster. This poster, which it's incendiary Bush image and political bent, and the fact that the Houston posters did not make it to the venue (they were supposedly sitting in a FedEx facility and
could not be delivered for the Sunday performance), have driven its value up beyond any of the other U.S. posters.
We have not properly differentiated between them yet, but it should be noted that the limited edition signed/numbered versions of the posters that Ames releases are doing extremely well. As a rule of thumb, what we are seeing is that a LE print will add $30-50 to the value of the poster. Once we gather more data, we will probably make the distinction on the database by having separate entries. Another very interesting thing that is happening right now is that the new posters and new tour have generated much interest in all of the Pearl Jam posters for previous tours. Many new record numbers have been reached (notice all the orange below), and many rare posters are coming out for sale...it is a great and exciting time for collectors and dealers alike. We would also like to give a tremendous thanks to Travis Klein. There was many more poster auctions since the last update than there ever has been in the past, and he helped us with much of the auction data that we used this time. Thanks Travis! |
