THE GIVEAWAY:

Ft. Lauderdale 1996 Poster

This giveaway was mired with problems from the start. When we first declared the winner, it was "Peter Ten Eyck", who got all ten questions "right". Well, it was brought to our attention that our answer for question #5 is more than likely wrong, since it was posted in the Synergy Rumor Pit #27 as being a false rumor, and they are indeed the official word. Well, after retabulating everything, we now have a standoff...between "Peter Ten Eyck" and "Len White", who both got the remaining 9 correct. Now normally we would just randomly select one, but in this case to make everything fair, what we decided to do was to have a standoff between the two.

Another note: technically our answer for question #10 is wrong as well. Eddie also appeared on the program in May of 1998 doing a "Behind the Music" parody, so the correct answer for that is "6". Well, what we intended the question to be was the number of times Ed had performed a song. In this case, what we did was if a person gave us an answer of either 5 or 6, we counted them both correct. However, this turned out to not effect the outcome.

Geez, what a mess! :) We will have to be more careful with the questions next time!

Messed-Up Results for First Portion...ughh!

"Mexican Standoff"
Okay, Peter and Len, here are your questions. We will give you to, say, Dec. 10 to give us your answers (just email them to us at karma@blackredyellow.com this time). We will do this publicly so everyone can see if we screw up again. We will post the results as soon as both of you answer, or by Dec. 10, whichever comes first.

We tried to make some of these hard so we don't have a deadlock again. Listed below are the questions and the answers.

1. What song did "Five Horizons" get their name from?

Len = Black
Peter = Black
BRY = Black

2. Poster question: How many posters did Ames Brothers create for Pearl Jam in 1998, not including those with repetitive designs?

Len = 36 (this number includes the lo2l promos)
Peter = 35-- the repeat designs being Maui/South Pacific/Perth, Brisbane/Summer '98, Missoula/E Lansing, Albuquerque/Va Beach, San Diego/W Palm Beach, Detroit/Birmingham
BRY = Here again, we fell into a pit with asking a question that has too many possiblities. What we intended for you was to only count the posters that were done specifically by Ames Brothers and not outsourced (like the Suttons, Nate Williams, etc.). The answer we were looking for 32, but it sounds like both Len and Peter were on the same track, so we assume that they are both right (so Len is correct as well as Peter). This question should have been explained further, since if you include the LO2L promos, you would also get more than 35.

3. True/False: The song "Immortality" is about Kurt Cobain.

Len = False
Peter = False
BRY = False

4. In 1998, what Soundgarden song was Pearl Jam reportably practicing privately to perform on the road during that year's tour, but didn't? (Hint: the song's music was written by Matt Cameron).

Len = Room A Thousand Years Wide
Peter = Room A Thousand Years Wide
BRY = Room A Thousand Years Wide

5. What famous 90210 actress once had a "crush" on Eddie?

Len = Shannen Doherty
Peter = Shannen Doherty
BRY = Shannen Doherty

6. True/False: Pearl Jam was sued by Robert Plant and Jimmy Page over copyright infringement concerning the song "Given to Fly"?

Len = False
Peter = False. Plant joked that Pearl Jam had probably never even heard the song "going to california."
BRY = False

7. Out of all Pearl Jam band members past and present, who is the oldest living member?

Len = Jack Irons
Peter = Jack Irons
BRY = Jack Irons

8. The song "Better Man"….Eddie has remarked on several occasions who this song is about. Who is it? (listen to the song carefully if you have to)

Len = "...Its dedicated to the bastard that married my mama..." - EV 4/3/94...this is the only time I have ever heard ed say anything about this besides when he mentions that it was written when he was young...So, my best answer would be that this song is about his mother. It is obviously about a woman in a relationship which is hurting her, but she can't force herself to leave it.
Peter = I think Ed himself summed it up best on 4/3/94 when he remarked that he was dedicating Better Man to the "bastard that married my momma." [After asking for a clarification, Peter responded with...] OK, if I must be more specific... his father.
BRY = The answer we were looking for was his mother. If you listen to the words, even though the title is "Better Man", he is singing about his mother ("she dreams in color", etc.).

So, it looks like we finally have a winner by the slimmest of margins...Len White! As you can see, both Len and Peter were excellent competitors! Peter, we wish we had two of these to give away, we will see if we can come up with something for you (thanks again to Corvin for providing the treasure).
