| Figured I'd start at the beginning.
This is the 1st art poster (that I know of) advertising PJ as Pearl Jam (after changing from Mookie Blaylock). Done by Boston native Joey Mars, the poster was part of the "Discovery Series" for PEPSI to help promote their new Privett Vodka. The promoter,Chuck White, was a large fan of punk/underground music and decided to put together a spectacle of 6 nights of cool new music with 6 bands/night. Chuck in turn contacted Joey to do the promo art. Joey recalls that they originally scared PEPSI with his artwork ("do they all have to have fangs?"). To quote Joey: "We ended up getting our way and the series was a huge success. The rest is history." Originally this piece was done on a laser copier, with 100 copies in the 1st print run. "Through the years I have made 75-100 prints at various times, not all the same size...some smaller ..8.5x11) .... maybe ten different print runs through the years, but just 5 or ten copies at a time... A few years ago I started selling them in my store. I sell it as a limited edition to five hundred....I picked 500 to be the cut off point for this style, and sell it for $6.00 (mail order 8) I have sold about 20 copies from this later run. ...so to me there is only at most 220 copies made from the original illustration/art piece... The ten year span can be measured in color
sometimes... the illustrations have faded slightly through the years...
On the Pearl Jam poster the red demon playing drums has a little hard edge
to his fur, sligh, discoloration in later years... At times I would put
numbers on them other times not... ...so it is a hard line to follow the
printing blood line..." -Joey Mars
